Currently, there are no forces on the territory of Belarus to organize a successful offensive.
In the event of a repeated attack by the Russian Federation on Kyiv from Belarus, the Russian troops, together with the Belarusians, will see “many surprises” prepared for them by the Ukrainian defenders.
As Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavlyuk, the commander of the forces and means of defense of the capital, stated on the air of the national telethon, there are currently no forces on the territory of Belarus to organize a second attack on Ukraine, hoping for success.
“There is a desire of Russia to pollute Belarus with this war, it is there. To force them to go down the path from which there is no way back. At the same time, according to our observations, the Belarusians do not want to fight,” Pavlyuk said.
According to the Kyiv defense commander, there are currently about 20,000 local soldiers in Belarus who could potentially participate in the war. In addition, about 10,000 Russians can be added to them. However, this number of troops will not be enough for a successful offensive.
“And if they leave, they will stay there. We have gathered a fairly powerful group in that direction, which can not only stop, but also destroy. There will be a lot of surprises if they decide to leave,” Pavlyuk said.
Threat of invasion from Belarus: what is known
As of Wednesday, December 28, 2022, there are more than 10,000 Russian soldiers on the territory of Belarus. However, this number is not enough to start a new invasion of Ukraine.
At the same time, in Belarus, the army began to be transferred to “wartime” as part of the plan of sudden checks of combat readiness, which is in force in the country.
At the same time, military expert Oleg Zhdanov suggested that Russia transferred Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMS) to Belarus as part of the formation of a strike group for a new attack on Ukraine. But at the same time, the expert added that “Tor-M2” can still be used to protect the group that is just being formed.
