In total, it is planned to rename almost 300 streets.
This year, in the Ukrainian capital, several hundreds of objects whose names were associated with the aggressor country or the USSR were “de-Russified”.
According to the message of the Kyiv City State Administration, 237 streets, avenues and boulevards whose names were associated with the aggressor country or the Soviet past have already been renamed.
In addition, in the capital, bomb shelters were set up in educational institutions and in communal preschool education institutions for almost 190,000 people. Today, school bomb shelters can accommodate 152,000 people.
Renaming of streets in the capital
In June of this year, a survey was conducted in the “Kyiv Digital” mobile application. Residents of the capital expressed their opinion regarding the renaming of almost 300 streets in Kyiv, the names of which are associated with the USSR and the aggressor country.
According to the public, the streets of the capital bear the names of famous activists, journalists, artists, scientists, etc. Taking into account the results of the survey, the capital authorities are gradually making decisions about renaming streets.
In particular, on December 8, deputies of the capital’s city council passed a decision on renaming Druzhba Narodiv Boulevard in Kyiv to the Boulevard named after the founder of the Ukrainian Army, Mykola Mikhnovskyi.
And at the end of November, Ilya Ehrenburg Street was renamed to Liliya Lobanova Street in the Holosiivsky District of Kyiv.
