The weapons provided in 2022 helped Ukrainian defenders to stop the enemy and liberate part of the occupied territories of our country.

During 2022, Ukraine received from international partners the weapons, ammunition and material resources that the Defense Forces needed to defend against Russian aggression. Now Ukraine needs ammunition that will allow hitting the enemy at a long distance.

Brigadier General Oleksiy Gromov, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told Ukrinform in a comment, that as part of international technical assistance, Ukraine received from partner states samples of weapons, ammunition and material resources that are critically needed for the Armed Forces to carry out their tasks.

In particular, during the year, such types of weapons were received as tanks, armored combat vehicles of various purposes, rocket launcher systems, artillery systems and mortars, anti-aircraft missile systems (including portable anti-aircraft missile systems), helicopters, unmanned aerial systems, ammunition for artillery systems , air defense equipment, combat vehicles, tanks, small arms, barrage ammunition (“kamikaze drones”), means of counter-battery artillery, anti-tank missile systems, cars (trucks, armored), sanitary equipment, patrol boats, fuel and lubricants, food (including dry rations), body armor, bulletproof helmets, medical equipment, field hospital Assorted MSF Hospital,” Gromov emphasized.

According to the representative of the General Staff, the mentioned weapons gave the Ukrainian defenders the opportunity to stop the enemy and liberate part of the temporarily occupied territories of our country. He thanked for the assistance provided and noted that Ukraine needs to further increase the volume and expand the range of international technical assistance.

“The whole world and the Russians, first of all, know how well the ammunition warehouses burn after the defeat by the partners’ high-precision weapons (HIMARS). Therefore, the military leadership of the Russian Federation moved its reserves and control points away from the contact line. In turn, in order to continue the liberation of the native land and minimizing casualties among the civilian population of Ukraine, we desperately need ammunition that will allow us to hit important enemy targets at a long distance,” Gromov concluded.

Armaments for Ukraine: what assistance are provided by partners

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Ukraine has received a variety of military aid from other countries: from air defense systems to ammunition and clothing for the military.

The last high-profile “innovation” that will soon appear in the Armed Forces are the Patriot complexes, which were included in the new aid package from the United States. However, due to the need to prepare the military to work with these SAMs and logistical issues, Cato Research Institute analyst Jordan Cohen believes that Ukrainian servicemen will be able to start using the US-provided systems no earlier than the end of spring 2023.

In addition, Western media write that the US may transfer Bradley combat vehicles to Ukraine as part of an additional aid package. The Bradley infantry fighting vehicle entered service with the US Army in 1981 after long trials since 1964.

At the same time, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksiy Reznikov, said that Western partners do not yet dare to give Ukraine weapons that can strike at a distance of 300 kilometers or more. He noted that the question of “non-escalation” from the side of the Western partners is constantly heard.
