During a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyi on January 4, 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the transfer of another batch of military equipment to Ukraine. According to Macron, France will allocate heavy AMX-10 RC armored personnel carriers (also classified as wheeled tanks).
According to French sources, this is the first time that Western-made tanks will be used to strengthen the Ukrainian armed forces.
It should be noted that the tank was developed in the 1970s and entered service in 1981. It is an amphibious armored vehicle weighing about 16 tons. The AMX-10 RC has a turret that mounts a 105mm gun, a twin 7.62mm machine gun and 4 smoke mortars. The tank has a 6×6 wheel formula, suspension with variable ground clearance, a tire inflation system and two water cannons (used for driving on water). There is a modification with reinforced armor, but it is able to swim. The crew of the combat vehicle consists of 4 people.
In turn, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the French president for the decision to hand over “light tanks and Bastion” in his Telegram channel.

It is about the French Bastion multi-purpose armored vehicles. This is a relatively new development, introduced in 2010 and adopted in 2012. The four-wheel-drive armored vehicle has anti-mine protection from below and is available in several versions. The basic version is worth transporting a group of up to 5 fighters. The possibility of installing a turret with a 12.7 mm machine gun or a combat module on the roof is supported. In addition, the armored car can be equipped with 40 mm grenade launchers of the HK GMG type (two at the rear, one at the front) or 7.62 mm machine guns (at the same positions). There is also a modification designed to transport up to 8 fighters.
Unfortunately, it is not specified exactly when and in what quantity AMX-10 RC tanks and Bastion armored vehicles will be transferred to Ukraine.
