The Russian authorities may announce additional mobilization on January 15. It is expected that they can mobilize up to 500 thousand Russians.
This was reported by the representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andriy Chernyak, in a comment to “T-online”.
According to him, the draft decree provides that this time mobilization will also take place in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
“Men who currently work both in social spheres and in industries that bring profit to the Russian economy will enter the Russian armed forces,” the intelligence representative said.
Mobilization in Russia – what is known
As reported, on September 21, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the partial mobilization of military personnel in reserve. At that time, according to Defense Minister Serhiy Shoigu, they planned to mobilize about 300,000 people. On January 4, 2023, the Secretary of the National Security Council Oleksiy Danilov stated that Russia was preparing for an escalation of the war in February. He suggested that in the near future another wave of mobilization will be announced in Russia.
On January 5, the General Staff of the Armed Forces reported that the Russian leadership is taking measures to prevent the mass departure of men of conscription age abroad before the next wave of mobilization, which is expected in January. It was about the possibility of a complete ban on crossing the state border of the Russian Federation for men of conscription age.
