Almost immediately after the announcement that France would hand over AMX-10 RC wheeled “tanks” and Bastion armored vehicles to Ukraine, similar messages from other Ukrainian allies were not expected.
As Reuters reports, citing two US officials, the new package of US military aid will include about 50 Bradley fighting vehicles. The total cost of this aid package in the fight against Russian aggression will be about $2.8 billion. It is expected that this aid package for Ukraine will be announced on Friday, officials said.
Bradley
The development of the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle began in the mid-1960s, and the combat vehicle entered service in 1981. It is designed for the transportation of motorized infantry units on the battlefield and their fire support during combat. The BMP is equipped with a turret with a 25 mm Bushmaster gun, a 7.62 mm twin machine gun, and two TOW anti-tank missile launchers. Although the Bradley is not a tank, it can effectively fulfill the role of “tank killer”. Anti-tank missiles have a large radius of attack, and high maneuverability and speed allow you to enter and leave firing positions in advance.

In addition, the German government decided to provide Ukraine with an additional battery of the Patriot air defense system and the Marder BMP. This was announced on the evening of January 5 after a telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Patriot
Patriot is an American anti-aircraft missile system designed for air defense at medium and high altitudes. It has been used since 1981 by the US Army and its allies. The Patriot air defense system consists of an air-to-air missile and a high-performance radar system. The complex can be used to intercept enemy aircraft and missiles, including ballistic ones. Depending on the size of the target, Patriot can detect them at a distance of up to 180 km. and simultaneously accompany up to 125 targets. The detection time is claimed to be 8-10 seconds. Up to 6 missiles can be aimed simultaneously.
Marder
The Marder BMP is a kind of analogue of the Bradley BMP. This combat vehicle has a 20 mm RH 202 automatic cannon, a twin 7.62 mm machine gun and a MILAN missile system, and can carry up to 7 fighters. BMP can also be effectively used to support infantry actions and destroy enemy tanks. However, it is an older development compared to the Bradley. Development of the Marder began as early as 1960, and production began in late 1969. Since 2010, the Marder has been gradually replaced by the more modern Puma BMP in East Germany.
Currently, there are about 10 modifications of the Marder BMP, which differ in armament, level of protection, size of the landing compartment, and additional equipment. It is not yet known which modification of BMP Germany will transfer to Ukraine and in what quantity.
