Citizens are urged to save electricity.
The situation with electricity in Kyiv worsened due to the decrease in air temperature – consumption increased and the number of accidents on networks increased.
In the capital, there were emergency restrictions and a little overtime in some areas, Serhii Kovalenko, CEO of the electricity supplier YASNO, wrote about this on Facebook.
“Actually, everything is happening as we said: the temperature on the street is decreasing, consumption and the number of accidents are increasing…” Kovalenko noted.
According to him, it should be understood that neither the generation nor the network is currently in a condition to work without restrictions.
“Now is the time when we have a significant deficit of generation for the country. Each region receives significant restrictions, everyone is saving. And this weekend, schedules were tighter in many places,” he emphasized.
He explained why the lights were on on New Year’s Day, and now a blackout has been introduced again.
“The fact that we didn’t have blackouts on New Year’s Day is the result of the efforts of energy workers, who literally kept the temporary circuits in working condition. Also, a number of production facilities were turned off in general across the country, more electricity went to the population. Now we have to keep the balance between the population and business, because without the work of the latter, the economy will stop,” he explained.
In addition, Kovalenko drew attention to the fact that on January 1-2 the air temperature was 11, now it is -7.
“We know that every -5° is + 200 MW, which means that today we need more MW for Kyiv. And you never know which megawatt will lead to the transition to emergency shutdowns,” he noted.
Kovalenko added that repairs at power facilities continue and continued even during the celebrations.
“One unit at the Rivne NPP is currently undergoing major repairs. And what’s worse – accidents are added to them. I understand that it’s hard without electricity, especially when it was on for several days on New Year’s Day. But now we have to save money,” – he emphasized.
The situation with electricity in Kyiv is worth knowing
On January 9, in Ukraine, as of the morning, electricity consumption increased due to a decrease in temperature and an increase in consumption by industry and business.
In order to maintain a balance in the energy system, consumption limits have been set for all regions, valid from 04:00 to 24:00.
Later, the KMDA reported that electricity had again been turned off in the capital.
