Oleksiy Novitsky shot down a Russian SU-25 bomber, but he did not escape.
The operator of the anti-aircraft missile complex died heroically near Bakhmut. The defender shot down a Russian SU-25 bomber.
It is noted that the air surveillance post was noticed by a Russian plane. The operator of the MANPADS “Stinger” Oleksiy Novitskyi successfully shot down the bomber, after which he went down to his comrades in the shelter.
The soldiers were informed that the occupiers’ fighters were approaching, so it was necessary to get into position, and it was at this moment that the Russians struck with artillery. One of the Russian shells hit the observation point, as a result of which Novitsky died on the spot, and his brother was wounded.
“I didn’t even understand how he flew to us. It threw me off, I saw this already when I grabbed the Stinger to run down. We were friends with him from the moment we were called. He was a good person, always responded, when they asked him for something,” one of the soldiers told about the tragedy in a commentary for TSN.
The dead fighter was from their Khmelnytskyi region. He was 50 years old. He came to the front as a volunteer, and before that he worked in construction. He is survived by his mother and three children.
