The European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have established a task force to respond to threats to critical infrastructure.

As correspondent reports, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The President of the European Commission noted that the EU and NATO should strengthen cooperation in the issue of infrastructure security.

“We saw the sabotage on the Nord Streams, which showed that we have to be ready and that we have to counter this new type of threat. That’s why today we are launching an EU-NATO task force for the resilience of critical infrastructure.” said von der Leyen.

The President of the European Commission noted that in this working group, experts from the European Union and the Alliance “will work tirelessly to identify key threats to our critical infrastructure, to study the strategic vulnerabilities we have, and to develop key principles to improve our resilience Also, the working group will propose measures to reduce the consequences and measures to correct the shortcomings.

“From the beginning, the working group will be responsible for four sectors – transport, energy, digital and space. And of course, we will report our results to member countries or allies,” von der Leyen said.

She added that it is about sharing information and best practices and early warning of threats.

Attacks by the occupiers on the energy system of Ukraine:

Since October 2022, Russia has been trying to destroy the energy system of Ukraine, leaving Ukrainians without electricity, heating, water supply and communication.

The first serious missile attack on the objects of critical infrastructure of Ukraine was on October 10, 2022. From that moment, an emergency power outage began across the country.

On November 23, the Ministry of Energy announced that Ukraine’s energy system has entered a complete blackout mode.

Russia continued massive shelling of Ukraine even on New Year’s Eve.

On January 6, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal advised Ukrainians to prepare for emergency power outages due to the cold weather and possible shelling by the occupiers.
