World Population Review analysts have released a new ranking of countries with the highest crime rate in 2023.

According to the results of the study, the largest number of crimes as of the beginning of 2023 was committed in Venezuela, Papua New Guinea and South Africa.

As the authors of the study explain, high levels of poverty and unemployment tend to increase the level of crime in the country. Conversely, strict police control and harsh sentences tend to reduce it.

So, some of the lowest levels of crime in the world are observed in Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Japan and New Zealand. Each of these countries has very effective law enforcement, and Denmark, Norway, and Japan have some of the strictest gun laws in the world.
