At the moment, the decision on the number of tanks has not yet been made.
Great Britain is considering the possibility of transferring 12 Challenger 2 battle tanks to Ukraine.
This is reported by the British TV channel Sky News. In particular, the British government is considering the possibility of transferring Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine, which can be used on the battlefield against Russian forces, but such a decision has not yet been made. In particular, it is probably about 12 tanks.
At the same time, the former head of the General Staff of the British Army, General Richard Dunnatt, believes that at least 50 tanks should be sent to Ukraine in order to have a real impact on the situation on the battlefield. Dunnatt criticized reports that Britain was likely to offer 12 tanks.
“12 tanks is purely symbolic. I would suggest sending 25, 30 or even at least 50 tanks. This would bring real changes,” he said.
He explained that Ukraine will likely face a situation where Russia will organize “some form of invasion” in late winter or early spring, so the need for additional help from the West is “growing more than ever.”
“If we decide to provide them (Ukrainians – ) with tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, they should be strong enough to prepare a serious counteroffensive,” Dunnatt added.
At the same time, as the publication notes, if, in the end, a corresponding decision is made regarding a small number of tanks, Great Britain will become the first Western country to send main battle tanks to Ukraine.
What are Challenger 2 tanks

Tanks for Ukraine
On January 11, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, told NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg about the need to provide Ukraine with Western tanks.
At the same time, a few days ago, the mass media reported that the British government was considering the transfer of Challenger 2 battle tanks to Ukraine.
And on January 11, Downing Street confirmed that the British government plans to hand over Challenger 2 battle tanks to Ukraine to counter the Russian invaders.
