Prolonging the war is beneficial only to the Kremlin, the British minister believes.
Challenger tanks and other weapons that Ukraine is receiving now are a tool that will “finish the job” and win the war with Russia. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, James Cleverley, in an interview with The Sun.
“If in the future our friends decide to start peace talks, we want them to be in the strongest possible position to reach a lasting settlement,” Cleverley said.
The head of British diplomacy noted that now the fighting spirit of the Russians has fallen to the limit, so the West should speed up the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
“With their courage and tenacity, our Ukrainian friends have proven one thing for sure. If they have the tools, they will finish the job. Our task is to work with America and other allies to give them the tools they need,” he said.
According to the minister, a protracted war is not needed by anyone except Vladimir Putin.
“Putin will only win if the bloodshed and destruction drag on,” Cleverly emphasized.
Challenger 2 tanks for Ukraine
On January 11, the President of Poland announced that his country would transfer a company of German Leopard tanks to Ukraine. This was the first clear promise from the West to transfer Western-style tanks.
Immediately after that, there were rumors that Britain would also hand over a small number of tanks to Ukraine – but not Leopards, but its own Challengers.
A few days later, this information was already officially confirmed by the British authorities. Ukraine will indeed receive a squadron of British tanks.
