The Last of Us, the television adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic video game, debuted Sunday, January 15, exclusively on HBO Max.
The HBO series takes place 20 years after a Cordyceps fungus infection turned people into zombies. “The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal plays Joel, a smuggler tasked with transporting 14-year-old Ellie (Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsay) to a research facility. The girl is the only one who is immune to the virus and can help create a cure for the infection that has wiped out most of humanity.
The adaptation of The Last of Us was done by director Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) in collaboration with the creator of the Naughty Dog game, screenwriter Neil Druckmann. They previously reported that the series will feature much less violence and brutality than the game, and hinted at a second season to The Hollywood Reporter.
The series also stars Murray Bartlett, Lamar Johnson, Gabriel Moon, Melanie Lynskey, Nick Offerman, Nico Parker, Jeffrey Pearce, Storm Reid, Hanna Torv, Kevon Woodard and others.

Foreign publications have already published their first reviews, and all of them are mostly positive. Empire’s review called The Last of Us “arguably the best video game adaptation ever made”, while Variety called the series “a heartwarming zombie saga”, noting that the show could become “one of the best on television”.
It is not yet known where you can watch The Last of Us in Ukraine officially, since HBO Max is not yet available in our country. Previously, the Ukrainian services Oll.TV and Megogo cooperated with licensees who have rights to HBO content – it was the Russian service Amediateka.
The new HBO series was inspired by The Last of Us, first released for PlayStation in 2013. The remake of The Last of Us: Part I was released last September for the PS5. Release date for PC on Steam is March 3rd.
