The possible new head of the German Defense Ministry is not like the chancellor, the journalists emphasized.
The new Minister of Defense of Germany is already known – an official from the state of Lower Saxony will take the position instead of Kristina Lambrecht.
The agency will be headed by the current head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the state of Lower Saxony, Boris Pistorius, Der Spiegel reports with reference to information from its sources. “…the Minister of the Interior of Lower Saxony takes over from Christina Lambrecht, who previously submitted her resignation,” the journalists learned.
According to the publication, Pistorius is not the same as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, but clearer and more aggressive.
“Thanks to his direct speech, Pistorius was considered one of the most popular ministers in Lower Saxony,” the article says.
Scholz plans to offer Pistorius to become Germany’s new defense minister, writes Vloomberg. “Scholz is expected to nominate Pistorius … on Tuesday (January 17 – Ed.),” the agency found out.
We will remind, on January 16, it became known that Kristina Lambrecht officially submitted her resignation from the position of head of the German Ministry of Defense. Bloomberg associates this decision with pressure against the background of the disagreement of the German authorities to send Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine.
Western mass media have learned that Eva Hegl, the current commissioner of the federal government for the armed forces, is being named as the leader for the post of defense minister.
