The organizers of AO-2023 reacted to the scandalous incident during the Beindl match.
On Monday, January 16, during the Australian Open-2023 match, a loud scandal occurred between Ukrainian Kateryna Byndl and Kamilla Rakhimova.
A group of fans came to the match wearing T-shirts with the image of Russian President Vladimir Putin and displayed the flag of the terrorist country. As a result, the Ukrainian fans called security and the police several times.
After the match, Ukraine’s ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Miroshnychenko, condemned these actions and called on the organizers of the Australian Open to react immediately.
As a result, the Australian Tennis Federation, which is responsible for the competition, issued a statement in which it was announced that any display of the symbols of the aggressor countries at the Australian Open is officially prohibited.
“Flags of Russia and Belarus are prohibited on the territory of the Australian Open.
Our original policy was that fans could bring them with them, but could not use them to create any kind of obstruction.
Yesterday we had an incident where the flag was displayed in the stands.
The ban takes effect immediately. We will continue to work together with players and fans to provide the best possible tennis experience,” the statement said.
It will be recalled that the organizers of the Australian Open allowed athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to participate in the tournament in neutral status (without flags, anthems and other national symbols).
