The compact Apple Mac mini computer received M2 and M2 Pro processors. The company promises that the update of the system logic will bring the mini’s performance to a new level, allowing you to perform tasks that were previously unavailable for a device in such a small body.
The M2 system-on-a-chip consists of 8 computing cores (4 productive and 4 energy-efficient). The built-in video chip contains 10 cores. Mac mini with M2 supports up to 24 GB of RAM with a bandwidth of 100 GB/s. The M2 model can simultaneously play two streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 frames per second, or up to 12 streams of 4K ProRes 422 at the same rate. Claimed 50% greater performance compared to the previous generation Mac mini.
The Mac mini with a 12-core M2 Pro processor supports up to 32 GB of RAM with a bandwidth of 200 GB/s. The updated neural core Neural Engine works 40% faster than a similar unit in the previous generation processor, speeding up photo and video processing. The computer plays up to five streams of 8K ProRes 422 at 30 frames per second or up to 23 streams of 4K ProRes 422 at the same rate.
The Mac mini M2 has two Thunderbolt 4 ports and supports up to two displays. The Mac mini M2 Pro includes four Thunderbolt 4 ports and supports up to three displays or one 8K display. Both models feature two USB-A ports, an HDMI port, a 10GB Gigabit Ethernet port, and a dedicated headphone jack that supports high-impedance devices. In terms of wireless connectivity, both new models are also equipped with the latest Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards.
Simultaneously with the release of the new Mac mini, Apple removed models with M1 and Intel processors from sale. The novelty costs from Mac mini with M2 costs from $599, the purchase is available from January 24.
