A few months ago, the Polestar company presented its Polestar 3 electric SUV. The design of the new product uses solutions that prove that a modern electric car does not need a front radiator grill – this space can be used more rationally.
In the past, in cars with internal combustion engines, the front grills served a specific purpose, acting as an air duct to prevent the engine from overheating. And the designers tried to give it an aesthetic and well-known appearance. Now that the automotive industry is undergoing a massive transition from fossil fuels to electric propulsion, the demands on various vehicle components are changing.
As standard, the Polestar 3 is equipped with five radar modules, five external cameras and twelve external ultrasonic sensors to ensure user safety. The SmartZone unit, located under the front aerodynamic panel, is equipped with several front sensors, a camera, a front radar, heating elements, accelerometers and ultrasonic sensors. SmartZone essentially works as an additional “smart eye”, providing enhanced awareness, warning and protection with technology that is ready to respond to external factors.

It is said that Polestar wanted to show off the technology, rather than trying to hide it behind fake grilles. According to the company, this “shows a paradigm shift from fuel combustion to electrification.”
