Due to Russia’s aggression, access to food has worsened for at least 200 million people on three continents – in Africa, Asia and Europe.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the world to be more decisive in order to stop Russia’s aggression. This was discussed in his speech at the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture in Berlin, which takes place within the framework of the Global Forum on Food and Agriculture.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has always been and will always be a conscientious and responsible participant in global relations on the food market:
“This is our moral constant: there should be wheat on fertile soil, not vomit from explosions.”
He emphasized that even after being subjected to terrorist aggression by Russia, Ukraine continues to export food to countries all over the world.
“Prior to this war, which Russia has unleashed against us and which is destroying our potential, in particular the agricultural potential, we were exporting 6.5 million tons of food every month. Due to Russian aggression and Russia’s actions to block our food exports, supplies have halved. If you calculate it’s not in tons, but in lives, that’s at least 200 million people in different countries on three continents – in Africa, Asia and Europe, for whom access to food has worsened,” Zelenskyy said.
The President noted that the reduction of Ukrainian product exports causes price increases in Europe, for Asia it means an increase in the threat of social instability, for Africa, for countries such as Ethiopia or Sudan, it means empty tables for thousands and thousands of families.
This means that the world needs more determination and more cooperation to stop the aggressions that are disrupting the food market. a tool of his policy,” Zelensky emphasized.
According to the president, defeating hunger and guaranteeing food security is quite possible. It is also possible to stabilize food prices on the world market. However, for this, the world must punish the aggressors and help countries that are now on the brink of starvation, Zelenskyy said.
“This is what Ukraine is doing. This is what our partners are doing. I call on everyone: join,” said the President of Ukraine, inviting support for the Ukrainian initiative “Grain from Ukraine” and the creation of food hubs in African countries.
