The situation in Donetsk region – battles for Bakhmut
The enemy is conducting offensive operations in the Avdiiv and Lyman directions and continues offensive attempts in the Bakhmut direction. As noted in the General Staff, here the occupiers are increasing the intensity of the use of aviation. The Ukrainian military is holding back the enemy’s attack on the “Ukrainian fortress” at great cost.
Analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that Bakhmut by itself has neither operational nor strategic significance. However, its defense is a strategically sound operation, as Ukraine would pay a significant price if Russian troops managed to take the city easily.
The day before, German intelligence also stated that the success of the occupiers in this direction could become a real disaster for Ukraine.
