Apple plans to manufacture 25% of all its iPhones in India, India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said. He called Apple “another success story.”
“They [Apple] already has about 5-7% of its production in India. If I am not mistaken, they intend to increase production to 25%,” Goyal told the conference.
Apple itself has not yet commented on this information.
Last year, Apple started assembling its flagship iPhone 14 in India. This was the first time that the tech giant started production of its latest model in India soon after its launch. Apple has been manufacturing iPhones in India since 2017, but they’ve usually been older models. Foxconn, the main assembler of the iPhone, manufactures smartphones at its factory in Sriperumbudur, on the outskirts of Chennai in eastern India.
JPMorgan analysts said back in September that by 2025 Apple could produce 25% of all iPhones in India.

Apple has been looking to diversify production outside of China, where the bulk of the iPhone is currently made. The instability in China was exposed last year after the Covid outbreak and worker protests at the world’s largest iPhone factory in Zhengzhou disrupted production plans.
