The Western and Southern Military Districts received new leadership.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu unexpectedly changed the command of the Western and Southern Military Districts.
As reported by the Russian edition of RBC, personnel changes in the military command of the Russian Federation were confirmed by several informed sources, in particular at the Ministry of Defense.
According to mass media, Colonel-General Serhiy Kuzovlev headed the Southern Military District. The Western Military District, previously commanded by Serhiy Kuzovlev, was headed by Lieutenant General Yevhen Nikiforov.
Personnel news from the Russian army
Recently, there was a significant personnel change in the command of the Russian Federation – Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov was appointed commander of the occupation forces in Ukraine.
Gerasimov assumed this position on January 11. According to the GUR, Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin instructed Gerasimov to seize Luhansk and Donetsk regions by March.
Western experts believe that the change of leadership in the army is not only the result of Russia’s military failures, but also a consequence of the struggle for influence in the circle of the Russian president.
The Pentagon believes that personnel reshuffles confirm “the systemic problems that the Russian military has faced since this invasion.”
