The goal of the coaching staff of Fernando Santos will be to reach the final part of Euro-2024.

The famous Portuguese specialist Fernando Santos has been appointed as the head coach of the Polish national team.

Information about the appointment of Santus was confirmed by the Polish Football Union.

The details of the agreement with the 68-year-old specialist are not disclosed. According to the media, the Portuguese signed a contract until June 2026.

Santos became the third foreign coach in the history of the Poles after Leo Benhacker and Paulo Souza.

The goal of Santus’ coaching staff will be to reach the final part of Euro-2024. Poland has been drawn into qualifying group E with the Czech Republic, Albania, the Faroe Islands and Moldova.

Fernando Santos will play his first official match at the head of the Polish national team on March 24 against the Czech national team as part of the selection for Euro-2024.

It will be recalled that the Polish Football Union did not renew the contract with ex-coach Czeslaw Michniewicz, who led the team to the 1/8 finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where his national team lost to the French with a score of 1:3.

Fernando Santos previously coached leading clubs in the Portuguese and Greek championships. He also led the national team of Greece and Portugal.

Under the leadership of Santos, the Portuguese national team won the 2016 European Championship and the 2018/19 Nations League.

The specialist left his post after the 2022 World Cup, where Portugal lost to Morocco (0:1) in the 1/4 finals.
