Great Britain plans to hand over Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine by the end of March.
This was announced by the head of the procurement department of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain, Alex Chok, in a comment to Sky News. Training of Ukrainian servicemen to work with these tanks will begin next week, he said.
“The intention is that this (arrival of tanks in Ukraine – ) will be at the end of March, and now there will be a really important training program, not only for the tank crews who will operate them, but also for those who will be responsible for their content.” , – said Chok.
He stated that Great Britain will continue to support Ukraine in the transition from resistance to the Russian army to its expulsion from the territory of Ukraine, and also welcomed the statements of the German and US governments that they will transfer their tanks to the country.
“Our united determination can and will be decisive. In 2023, we are more determined than ever. We will support Ukraine as long as it takes,” Chok added.
Challenger tanks for Ukraine
At the beginning of the year, information appeared in the media that Great Britain wants to transfer Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine.
Already on January 15, London officially announced that a squadron of 14 Challenger 2 tanks and 30 AS90 self-propelled artillery units would be sent to Ukraine.
British Defense Minister Ben Wallace said that Ukrainian servicemen will be trained to handle American Bradley fighting vehicles at the same time, as they and Challenger 2 will complement each other in combat.
On January 6, the United States announced a new aid package, which included Bradley armored vehicles. Ukraine will also receive self-propelled howitzers, armored vehicles, surface-to-air missiles, anti-transport mines and ammunition.
