According to Kremlin insiders cited by the publication, Putin is preparing a new offensive, trying to seize the initiative, because he is dissatisfied with the successes of the Armed Forces and the failure of the Russian military. The dictator fears that in February or March, the defenders of Ukraine will begin to attack with greater force. The President of the Russian Federation decided to make a bet that if he delayed, it would allow him to win the war.

“This report is consistent with ISW’s current assessment and forecast that the Kremlin is likely preparing for decisive strategic action – most likely in Luhansk Oblast – in the next six months to regain the initiative and end Ukraine’s current string of operational successes. ISW previously estimated that the decisive strategic action in the Luhansk region could be either a major offensive or a defensive operation by Russia to defeat and develop a counteroffensive of Ukraine,” the analysts noted.

Experts believe that the attempts of the Rashists to break through to Zaporozhye may be aimed at dispersing the Ukrainian army.
