This is because it is technically impossible to disable them.
Currently, in the vast majority of houses in Kyiv, the lights are turned off according to the schedule. Only 3% do not turn off the power supply at all.
Director General of YASNO Serhiy Kovalenko explained on Facebook that it is technically impossible to disconnect these houses.
“In fact, almost all houses in Kyiv are switched off according to the schedules. But the schedules may be different in neighboring houses,” he added.
Kovalenko reminded that all residential buildings are divided into groups for uniform shutdowns. As he explained, groups are formed not by the number of buildings, but by the power they consume. You can see the exact information about this in the infographic.
According to Kovalenko, there are another 1,500 houses that are connected to critical infrastructure lines and are outside the groups.
“However, thanks to the cooperation of colleagues from the KMDA and reconnection to other lines, there are now 750 of them. Part of them – 400 – should be disconnected by ZHEK, HOA and management companies to enable the energy system to be even more stable,” he wrote.
Blackout in Ukraine
As of January 31, 2023, Ukraine’s energy system has already survived 13 enemy missile attacks and 15 UAV strikes on energy facilities. In addition, more than 10 GW of the main installed capacities are still inaccessible to the Ukrainian energy system and are under the control of the enemy. This is the largest in Ukraine and Europe: Zaporizhzhia NPP, Zaporizhzhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vugleghirskaya TPP, Kakhovskaya HPP.
As previously reported by , electricity consumption in the country is increasing due to the cold weather, due to which there are risks of emergency shutdowns.
