In the north of Ukraine, due to flooding, a red level of danger was declared. This is reported by the Ukrhydrometeorological center.

“From January 31 to February 2, there will be a significant flooding of the floodplain in the section of the Upper Dnieper within the borders of Ukraine (Chernihiv district of Chernihiv region),” the warning reads.

As noted, disruption of transport links with some riverside villages along the upper Dnieper and flooding of residential buildings in a number of villages is expected. The III level of danger has been declared – red.

Also, during these days, further restoration and strengthening of ice phenomena will take place in the section of Desna Novgorod-Siverskyi – Makoshine (Novgorod-Siverskyi, Koryukivskyi and Chernihivskyi districts of Chernihiv region).

“Sudden fluctuations in water levels up to 0.1 – 0.2 meters per day, retention and increase in flooding of the floodplain and disruption of transport connections with populated areas along the Desna are possible,” the warning reads.

And on the Sniv River, exceeding the dangerous level of water overflow due to the highway of local importance in the Koryukiv district of the Chernihiv region will remain. In this connection, the II level of danger – orange – has been announced.

As previously reported, 130 households were flooded in Chernihiv Oblast due to a winter flood and direct communication with more than 10 villages was disrupted.

According to experts, this year is the biggest winter flood on Desna in almost 130 years of observations. Flooding of roads and households in winter has not been observed by local residents for the past half a century.
