Profile resource DOU.UA published the third study of the winter cycle regarding the salaries of Ukrainian IT specialists. The previous two reports were about the salary level of IT developers and testers in Ukraine. The authors collected and analyzed the questionnaires of 4179 questionnaires of RM, HR, DevOps, analysts, Data Scientists, designers and other technical and non-technical specialists. We have selected the main figures and theses of this study.

IT specialists are gradually returning to Kyiv and the region: in the summer, 33% of specialists lived here, now – 43%. Other millionaires are also returning to IT. In Dnipro and the region, 7% now live against 6% in the summer, in Odesa and the region – 4% against 3% in the summer, in Kharkiv – 3% against 2% in the summer. Mostly those who sought refuge in the western regions because of the war are returning. Six months ago, 21% of specialists were in Lviv and the region, today – 19%. The share of IT users in Ivano-Frankivsk region decreased from 5% to 4%.
As with testers, the number of experienced professionals has decreased among other IT professionals: in the summer of 2022, 43% of them had the Senior+ level, and now – 39%. In particular, the number of Senior+ sales and security specialists decreased by 13%.

At the same time, the share of newcomers has hardly changed: if a year ago there were 10% of specialists with up to a year of experience, now they are 9%. Sales professionals (30% of them have up to a year of experience), HTML coders (25%), Customer Success (23%) and Game Developers (18%) were the most likely to start a career in IT in 2022.
After developers and testers, the most common specializations of Ukrainian IT remain project management specialists (they make up 6% of all respondents), HR/recruiters, designers and analysts (4% each), DevOps/SRE (3%).
Average salaries: dynamics
Product Manager salaries have returned to the level of last December ($3,500, $700). And the average Project Manager salary has increased slightly ($2100, $100).
After a significant drop in the summer of 2022, Data Scientists salaries have leveled off somewhat ($2,500 + $200). That’s how much designers’ wages have increased ($1,700, $200).
Salaries for business analysts and data analysts decreased by $100.
Average salaries: by position
Average salaries changed significantly in the second half of the year. The highest salaries are among C-level managers: STO ($6,650, +$1,650 per half year), Director of Engineering ($6,500, +$375 per half year), which corresponds to the salary level of System Architects ($6,500). Slightly lower CEO salaries: $4,500 (-$500). These specialists more often work in small companies, so their median salaries are lower than the salaries of STO and Director of Engineering.
Large project managers have traditionally high salaries: Program Manager ($5,000, $500 per six months), Delivery Manager ($4,500, unchanged). The median salary of a Product Manager returned to last year’s value ($3500, +$700), for a Product Owner – decreased by $500, to $3000.
The average salary for SRE specialists has returned to last year’s level ($4,122, -$578 per half year), but remains one of the highest among all specializations.
Salaries of Data Science and Machine Learning specialists are increasing. The median Data/Big Data Engineer salary increased throughout 2022 (currently $3,650 + $850 semi-annually). Salaries in Machine Learning also increased in both the first and second half of 2022 ($2,900 + $100 per half year). Data Science rallied slightly after falling in the first half ($2,500, +$200).
Salaries of data analysis specialists, on the contrary, decreased slightly in the second half of the year: Business Analyst ($2,250 – $100), Data Analyst ($1,500 – $100). They also significantly decreased among sales specialists ($1000, -$300).
