The President emphasized that there are no instruments in the legislation of Ukraine that would allow to immediately and urgently deprive deputies of their mandates.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the petition to revoke the mandates of the People’s Deputies of the banned OPZZH party. She gained the necessary 25,000 votes in less than a month.

The head of state noted that he asked the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, to work out the proposals presented in the electronic petition and to inform him about the results of the consideration of the author of the petition.

In his response to the petition, Zelenskyi noted that there are no instruments in the legislation of Ukraine that would allow for one-time and urgent removal of deputies’ mandates.

As the president explained, any draft laws are prepared in advance by the staff of the Verkhovna Rada based on the submissions of committees, temporary special commissions and temporary investigative commissions, taking into account the proposals of deputy factions (deputy groups) in accordance with the approved agenda of the Verkhovna Rada session and submitted for consideration by the Conciliation Council.

Deprivation of mandates of People’s Deputies from OPZZ

As previously reported by , on May 12, 2022, it became known about the final liquidation of the “OPZZH” faction. On the same day, Taras Batenko, the co-chairman of the “Party for the Future” parliamentary group, announced that the Verkhovna Rada has registered a draft law that makes it impossible for representatives of the “OPZZH” party and other parties prohibited, according to the decision of the National Security Council, to run for the future members of the parliament.

On Independence Day, August 24, a group of people’s deputies registered in the Verkhovna Rada a draft resolution on the termination of the powers of all parliamentarians from the “Opposition Platform – for Life”.

Commenting on the removal of the parliamentary mandates of Viktor Medvedchuk, Andrii Derkach, Taras Kozak and Renat Kuzmin, the Secretary of the National Security Council Oleksiy Danilov said that all members of the OPZZH should resign from the Verkhovna Rada.
