The estimated cost is 10 billion dollars.
The US State Department has approved the possible military sale of HIMARS launchers and related equipment to Poland.
This is stated in the statement of the Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense. Poland has requested the purchase of 18 HIMARS launchers, 45 Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles, and a guided missile launch system (GMLRS). The total estimated cost is 10 billion dollars.
It said the agreement would support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by enhancing the ally’s security vis-à-vis NATO.
“Poland intends to use these defense products and services to modernize its armed forces and expand its capabilities to strengthen its country’s defense and deter regional threats. It will not be difficult for Poland to introduce this technology into its armed forces,” the report said.
Reinforcement of the Polish army
We will remind that after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, Poland changed its operational defense plan in case of an invasion from the East.
A new type of military service was also introduced in the country. Anyone who has not previously served in the army can pass it.
In November, during the mass shelling of Ukraine, a rocket fell on the territory of Poland. After that, Germany offered Poland the Patriot anti-missile defense system.
Polish authorities offered to transfer air defense to Ukraine, but Berlin refused. As a result, Poland agreed to install them on its territory.
As reported, in December the country received 10 Black Panther-2 tanks and 24 self-propelled howitzers from South Korea. Later, the US approved the sale of 116 more Abrams battle tanks to Poland.
