There will be no outages in three regions today due to the intention to measure actual electricity consumption. These are Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Mykolaiv regions.
In Ukraine, the level of electricity consumption is increasing due to a decrease in air temperature, the largest deficit is observed in the evening.
According to NEC “Ukrenergo”, after the emergency repair of the equipment, one unit at one of the power plants in the central region has been put into operation.
Generation from renewable energy sources also increased. At the same time, one unit at another power plant was taken out for emergency repairs. Electricity import continues.
“Electricity consumption has increased due to a drop in temperature, while electricity production has also increased somewhat. The capacity deficit persists, the most in the evening hours,” the report says.
“The amount of electricity produced is still insufficient to cover consumption in full. The electricity produced is distributed to ensure the operation of energy and critical infrastructure (water pipes, boiler houses, hospitals), as well as to cover the needs of industry and the population,” the company explained.
In Odesa, network restrictions are maintained and emergency shutdowns are applied.
The press service reports that consumption limits were not reached in the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk and Mykolaiv regions, where actual consumption measurements were planned. However, due to the damage to the water supply as a result of Russian shelling, measurements in the Mykolaiv region will not be carried out yet, since the damaged critical infrastructure is a significant consumer, which will affect the measurement indicators. At the same time, consumption restrictions in the region will not be applied yet.
The remaining operators of distribution systems (oblenergo) have been provided with consumption limits that apply during the day.
“In Odesa, Ukrenergo and Oblenergo repair crews are working 24/7 and are making every effort to restore power supply as soon as possible. Work is also continuing on other facilities damaged by Russian missile and drone attacks,” added Ukrenergo.
Energy system of Ukraine in war conditions:
The first serious missile attack on the objects of critical infrastructure of Ukraine was on October 10, 2022. From that moment, an emergency power outage began across the country.
The enemy does not stop missile attacks on the energy system of Ukraine.
More than 10 GW of the main installed capacities are still inaccessible to the Ukrainian energy system and are under the control of the enemy. This is the largest in Ukraine and Europe: Zaporizhzhia NPP, Zaporizhzhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vugleghirskaya TPP, Kakhovskaya HPP.
In addition to the NPP, the rest of the power plants are key regulating capacities. It is they who provide cover for consumption during peak morning and evening hours, when there is the greatest shortage.
Throughout Ukraine, starting from February 8, the consumption limits will be changed in order to understand how much the regions with constant access to electricity consume. In turn, consumption restrictions will be completely lifted in each region for one day.
