Microsoft uses artificial intelligence for a new way of viewing web pages, and in the chat of the Bing search engine, like ChatGPT, users will be able to receive realistic answers to any questions.
“It’s a new day in search,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said during the product announcement.
He added that the paradigm of web search has not changed for decades, and it is artificial intelligence that will be able to take it to a new level, providing information much faster.
“The races start today. And we’re going to move, we’re going to move very quickly,” Nadella said.
During today’s demonstration, the company presented the “new Bing” – a search engine that works in different configurations: one mode shows traditional search results alongside AI annotationsthe other – enables users communicate directly with Bing Chat by asking it questions in the regular chat interface.
Microsoft shared examples of search queries and results: searching for recipes, travel tips, shopping for furniture at Ikea. In one demo, Bing was asked to “create an itinerary for a 5-day trip to Mexico.” The chatbot self-described a sample route, linking to sources so users can get additional information or verify existing information.

AI functions are created on the basis of the updated version of GPT 3.5 – the language model that ensured the operation of ChatGPT from OpenAI. Microsoft called this version the “Prometheus model”, claiming that it is significantly more powerful than GPT 3.5: it responds better to search queries, provides more relevant information and answers with links.
The new Bing should be live today, with users able to submit a limited number of queries and sign up for full access in the future.
Two new AI functions will also be added to the Edge browser – They will be embedded in the sidebar of the browser:
- The “chat” function will allow users to summarize the content of a page or document and ask questions about the content.
- The write function will help you generate anything from emails to social media posts based on a few basic prompts.
In the wake of the rapid popularity of ChatGPT, Microsoft has developed a booming business: it invested $10 billion in the company that created the chatbot OpenAI, and ChatGPT itself plans to integrate not only with the search engine and browser, but also with its own office software offerings.

Google, in turn, announced the alarm in its divisions, even the founders and shareholders of the tech giant, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, became active. On Monday, the company unveiled its ChatGPT alternative called Bard. Google CEO Sundar Pichai called the software an “experimental AI service” that is still being tested by a limited number of users and company employees, and will be rolled out to the general public “in the coming weeks.”
