Kunlun Tech has announced that it will be adding ChatGPT to Opera – no details on timing or whether AI features will be available across all products, including desktop and mobile browsers for iOS and Android, have yet to be released.
According to Statcounter data for January, Google’s Chrome browser has the largest market share worldwide at 65.4%, while Microsoft’s Edge browser has 4.5%. Opera ranks sixth in the global browser market with a share of 2.4%.
Norway’s Opera, which also operates a browser specialized in games, recorded an average of 321 million monthly active users as of the third quarter of 2022. The company said its browser business for gamers helped boost third-quarter revenue by 28% year-over-year to $85.3 million.
Opera’s parent company, Beijing-based Kunlun Tech, announced in December that it was working to create “an array of AI-powered content, such as music and images, open source.”
Shares of Kunlun Tech have increased by more than 40% for the year. Over the same period, Opera shares have increased by more than 10%.
ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, gained popularity after its release in late November, which Microsoft immediately took advantage of. The company invested $10 billion in the developer, added a chatbot to its own browser and search engine, launched Teams Premium with AI functions based on GPT-3.5 and plans to integrate the language model with Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Almost at the same time as the competitor, Google introduced its own chatbot for search. The company also announced new AI functions in Google Maps, Translate and Lens.
The new Microsoft Bing search engine with the ChatGPT chatbot is available to everyone. How to try?
