The US is in contact with Moldovan and Romanian officials.
The US State Department believes that there are currently no signs of a direct military threat from Russia to Moldova or Romania.
According to Sky News, this was stated by the deputy official representative of the US State Department, Vedant Patel, after rumors appeared about a possible reaction of NATO to the flight of Russian missiles in the airspace of Romania, which is a member of the Alliance.
“We maintain close contact and communication with our Moldovan partners and Romanian allies,” Patel added.
Russian missiles in Romania
On February 10, Russia launched another massive missile attack on Ukraine. The enemy used 29 S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles and 71 air and sea-based cruise missiles.
Despite the fact that Ukrainian air defense destroyed 61 out of 71 launched missiles, there were also hits – on thermal and hydro generation facilities, transformers in six regions of Ukraine. In connection with this, emergency power outages began.
Later it became known that Russian Calibers were crossing the border of Ukraine. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny reported that at 10:18 a.m. Russian missiles reached Moldova, then crossed the airspace of the NATO country, reaching Romania. Romanian authorities deny that Russian missiles entered their country’s airspace.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Great Britain, Vadym Prystaiko, expressed confidence that the North Atlantic Alliance will react today to the fact that Russian missiles crossed Romania’s airspace during today’s massive attack on Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an evening video message, recalled that several Russian missiles had passed through the airspace of Moldova and Romania and stated that this was a challenge for NATO.
