Rakuten Viber has launched a new storage management feature. It will allow Viber users to control the amount of memory occupied by the program on the device.
Viber’s new storage management feature allows users to clear the app’s cache or select media files they want to free up space. Storage management will show how much space Viber is taking up on your device, how much free storage space is left, and how much media content is taking up each individual chat and channel.
Users will be able to select and delete individual files in a chat and channel, or free up space with all files in it. In this case, the files will be deleted on the phone and other devices, but will remain with the interlocutors. If a person has already downloaded files received through the application to the phone, these files will remain stored on the device. Otherwise, the deletion will be irreversible. The history of deleting text messages in chats remains available when deleting media files.
Channel cache and media files can also be deleted. They will be updated if the user scrolls through the message feed again.
Storage management in Viber will be available for iOS and Android mobile devices in the coming days. To go to the function, you need to go to the menu: on a mobile phone, select “More” -> “Options” -> “Memory”.
In addition, it is noted that freeing up additional space on the phone in Viber can clear the message history of any chat. Since Viber does not store the content of personal or group chats on its servers, this action is irreversible for the user.
To clear the history of chat messages: click on the chat in the general list -> click the chat name at the top of the smartphone screen -> “Chat information and settings” -> “Clear chat content”.
