The government of one more country still hasn’t made a decision.
The Netherlands and Denmark refused to transfer German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
“The governments of the Netherlands and Denmark have announced that neither country will supply the Leopard 2. Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, for example, has said that his country can provide 18 Leopard 2s leased from Germany, which have until now been used by the German-Dutch battalion. . Answering a question, Dan Haag said that these tanks are not available for Ukraine,” WELT writes.
It is noted that the relevant decision was made during close consultations between the Netherlands and Germany.
In Denmark, they also told the publication that they will not participate in the tank coalition. “Obviously, as compensation for leaving the Leopard 2 coalition, the Netherlands and Denmark are making a financial contribution to the repair of 100 Leopard 1 tanks at industrial warehouses in Germany,” the publication notes.
In addition, journalists see signs that Finland is also not going to transfer Leopard to Ukraine before joining NATO.
Tanks for Ukraine
At the end of January, the Ministry of Defense of Denmark announced that they do not yet plan to hand over their tanks to Ukraine. However, recently there was information that Denmark may soon transfer decommissioned Leopard 1A5 tanks to Ukraine.
At the beginning of the year, the Netherlands announced that they were ready to pay for a Leopard to be sent to Ukraine as part of a coalition of allies.
The willingness to hand over German tanks to Ukraine was also announced in Finland, but on the condition that the allies would be the first to do so. The decision has not yet been made.
