Volodymyr Nazarenko noted that there are no street fights in Bakhmut.
The defenders of Ukraine have organized a multi-echelon defense in Bakhmut and are not going to leave the fortress city. The soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “took a good bite and tore” the Russian paratroopers.
“I would like to assure you that no one is going to leave the city. The city is defended in every street. Every street, every building is a fortress. Very good fortifications all over the city. I do not want to reveal where they are, how they are arranged, but And if the enemy somewhere on the outskirts of the city is currently waging active, very dynamic, very tense battles – and this is the private sector and several high-rise buildings also in the south, east of the city – but in general, the enemy has not entered the “heart” of the city. He tries to seep in, but he’s not there. Actually, the “heart” of the city, the city center, including the western suburbs, are under reliable control. The Ukrainian forces are the masters of this city,” Deputy Commander of the Svoboda Battalion, Lieutenant of the National Guard of Ukraine Volodymyr Nazarenko, said on the air of the Svoboda Live program.
At the same time, he noted that there are no street fights in Bakhmut, as there were in Severodonetsk or Rubizhny. In addition, he noted that “the enemy’s forces will end sooner or later”, and the enemy is already “forced to introduce new and new connections after the previous units have been defeated”.
According to him, as early as the beginning of January, there were statements that the “Wagner” PMC was almost completely destroyed, after which the Russians “introduced the landing force”, but the Ukrainians “bitten it well, tore it up.”
“Now they withdrew the airborne troops in some directions, they just kept the defense line. And we know that the front line has been stabilized for the last week. But now the enemy really popped, began to squeeze the northern flank, the northern outskirts, in fact, in the direction of Krasnoy Gora. But the enemy is taking quite a lot of losses there and soon it will be a situation where the enemy will run out of opportunities to raise more and more forces. This is more my expectation than this is the forecast. 3 weeks will be over, but it seems to me that for them it’s getting more and more complicated,” Nazarenko noted.
He also noted that it is “gradually more and more difficult for the Russians to find new reserves” – since January 1, they have been “pulling up those units that they would like to use for this spring full-scale offensive.” In his opinion, the Russians realized that “they are not capable of conducting this spring offensive.”
Battles for Bakhmut – what is known
By the anniversary of the full-scale war with Ukraine, Russian troops are trying to achieve minimal success at the front and occupy the entire Donetsk region. At the moment, the occupation of Bakhmut, for which the Russian army is fighting fiercely, has become an important media component for the Kremlin.
The Ukrainian military continues to defend the city, although the situation there is quite difficult. Recently, the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine spoke about their personal experience of fighting with the Russians, stating that they fight like zombies – they climb forward in crazy numbers.
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the USA, General Mark Milley, assessed the ability of the Russian Army to break through the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donbas and the subsequent course of the battle for Bakhmut.
