China is ready to submit its own peace proposals for Ukraine and Russia. Beijing says that the war must stop.

This was stated by the head of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Wang Yi, at the Munich Security Conference, reports CNN.

“This war cannot continue to rage,” said Wang Yi, who is a political adviser to Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping.

Wang Yi added that China’s proposal takes into account that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states must be respected. He noted that Beijing will continue to work for peace.

“We can, of course, continue to voice our proposals at international conferences like this one, but I suggest that we also start thinking calmly, especially for my friends in Europe… We have to think about what efforts we can make to stop this war,” said the adviser.

As reported, on February 18, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, the Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris, warned China not to help Russia with lethal weapons that could be used by it in the war against Ukraine. The US is concerned that Beijing has deepened its relations with Moscow since the start of the war.

War in Ukraine – China

It will be recalled that after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, China took a neutral position and called for an end to hostilities and the beginning of a peaceful dialogue. At the same time, Beijing emphasized the support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine based on the UN Charter. China has also not officially supported sanctions against Russia, but Chinese companies have de facto limited or stopped supplying many sanctioned goods.

China’s new ambassador to the European Union, Fu Cun, said that Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine put China “in a very difficult position” and “greatly aggravated” China’s relations with Europe.

Late last year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China would deepen ties with Russia in 2023 and emphasized his country’s impartial stance on the war in Ukraine. And recently, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu came on a working visit to Russia and agreed to promote progress in relations between the countries in 2023.

The ex-coordinator of the US State Department on sanctions, Daniel Fried, is sure that China does not plan to support Russia in the war in Ukraine. According to him, Beijing saw that the West is not as weak as it thought.

In January of this year, it became known that the administration of US President Joe Biden expressed China’s concern over the fact that Chinese companies are selling non-lethal equipment to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine. In particular, it is about bulletproof vests and helmets. American authorities have evidence of such deliveries.

Earlier it became known that the leader of China, Xi Jinping, plans to make a peaceful speech on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.
