On February 24, at 7:30 p.m., TV channel 2+2 will premiere the four-episode military drama “I am Hope” about emergency medics who, during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, showed considerable courage, desperation and devotion to their profession, saving human lives.

“I am Hope” is the first military drama series of TV channel 2+2, filmed during the war in Ukraine. The main characters of the film are “ambulance” workers in Kharkiv, who in February-March 2022 rescued civilians and military personnel of their city under constant shelling and bombing.

The young paramedic Nadiya, despite the real danger and the boy’s persuasion to leave for a safer place, decides to stay in Kharkiv surrounded by the occupiers, not understanding what awaits her in the coming weeks – sleepless nights on duty, painful losses, daily risks for the sake of saving others and a meeting with the enemy face to face.

“This is a special project. Not only because it is the first shooting of a Ukrainian TV series during the war. But also because the authors were inspired by the real story of a girl who, despite her young age, showed resilience and absolute dedication to her work in the most terrible situation. for the country time. To be honest, taking on this idea was exciting for me,” comments director Denys Tarasov.

He added that there were certain restrictions due to martial law. Alarms, shelling, lack of communication and light – all this made adjustments to production.

“For example, we didn’t shoot near infrastructure facilities, we refused large-scale action scenes with explosions, instead of full-fledged scenes in Kharkiv, we only shot explicit plans there. In order for us to shoot in the de-occupied territories of the Kyiv region, some locations were even demined by specialists “. All this reminded us that the war is not only in the frame, it is in our lives every day,” says Tarasov.

The idea of ​​the series by the authors Artem Kobzan and Andrii Vyshtak was inspired by the stories of Ukrainian doctors who have been courageously holding their front since the beginning of the full-scale Russian offensive. The prototype of the main character was the 22-year-old paramedic Hanna Andryushchenko, who in the first months of the war worked at the Kharkiv Center for Emergency Medical Aid and Disaster Medicine.

“During the meeting with Anya, I was impressed, actually, by Anya herself. She is soft, warm, sensitive. And I couldn’t think in my head: how? How did she take on such responsibility? How did she not get scared, not break down? Besides moreover, she has already gone through it and has not become cynical, cold. I was impressed that she kept the light in herself,” recalls the main actress of the series, Veronique Dupin, when she met the prototype of her character.

Danylo Mireshkin, Iryna Mak, Pavlo Syrotkin, Antonina Khizhnyak, Valery Astakhov, Alex Stepanenko, Olena Kurta also played the main roles.

The military drama “I – Hope” was filmed in Kharkiv and in several locations in Kyiv and the region, in particular in Irpen.

The series involved ambulance doctors and employees of the State Emergency Service, who advised the actors and the creative team of the project. In Kharkiv and in the de-occupied territories of the Kyiv region, where the filming took place, military experts worked on the site to ensure the safety of the film crew.
