Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal showed Leopard 2 tanks that arrived in Ukraine from partners.

As Shmyhal told the Telegram channel, he met the Leopards together with his Polish colleague Mateusz Morawiecki.

“A year ago, tanks entered Ukraine to deprive Ukrainians of their freedom. Today, tanks also entered Ukraine, but in order to protect freedom. The first 4 Leopard 2 tanks, provided by partners, were met together with the Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki.” – stressed the chairman of the board.

Shmyhal also congratulated the crews of Ukrainian tankers who already have successful combat experience. “I thank our military for reliable protection. We are grateful to Poland and all partners for decisive steps that bring Ukraine’s victory closer. Under the leadership of the President of Ukraine, we continue to expand the tank coalition to return freedom to all Ukrainian territories,” he added.

Leopard 2 tanks for Ukraine

Leopard 2 is a German main tank, the development of which began in 1970.

The first Leopard 2 prototype was built in 1972, and in 1976 the Leopard 2 av prototype underwent comparative tests at a training ground in the USA.

Leopard 2 is believed to be a change in design philosophy and a leap in development compared to the earlier Leopard 1 and its A1 – A5 modifications.

On January 11, in Lviv, President Andrzej Duda announced that Poland has decided to transfer a company of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine as part of the formation of a “tank” coalition.

At the end of January, Germany agreed to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, and also allowed other countries to supply these tanks to the armed forces.

Today, on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the first “Leopards” from Poland arrived in Ukraine.
