Last November, the Notion note-taking service introduced a new AI feature that could independently write blogs, emails, pros and cons lists, poems and other texts. At the time, Notion AI’s generative machine learning algorithm was in private testing mode. And now the company has opened access to it for everyone, including those who use the free version of the service.
According to Notion, more than 2 million people have signed up to the waiting list to try the alpha version of Notion AI. After 10 weeks of testing, the company found that most testers did not ask Notion AI to write blog posts and marketing emails from scratch. Instead, they used AI to improve their own texts. Notion AI includes a formatting menu that contains text editing options. For example, the algorithm can shorten or increase the length of the text, change the style, correct spelling and grammatical errors.
“This suggests that most people start by writing their own content and treat AI as a thinking partner and editor,” Notion said.
The company also found that people often used the Notion AI option to improve their writing. The company compares the feature to a one-click word booster.
Based on the results of the alpha test, the company decided to “completely redesign” Notion AI to make it more “iterative and dialogic.” The new version of the tool will generate subsequent queries until the user is satisfied with the results.
“Notion AI is useful for creating new content, but it will also summarize long documents, extract key takeaways from messy notes, improve your writing style, and more,” Notion explains.
Notion offers access to Notion AI to anyone, but with some restrictions. Until April 5, all users will be able to receive 20 free II answers. Then, for further work with Notion AI, you will have to sign up for a subscription costing $10 per month. By purchasing an annual tariff, you can get a 20% discount. For Plus, Business and Enterprise customers, access to Notion AI will cost $10 per member per month.
