At the same time, the president emphasized that all probable steps of the enemy were discussed.
A year ago, the Ukrainian military-political command carefully prepared for the defense of Kyiv. By order of Zelenskyi, all bridges in the capital were mined a year ago. They were to be destroyed in the event of a breakthrough of the Russian army to the capital.
Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov told about this in the author’s documentary project “The Year” by Dmytro Komarov. According to him, Russia wanted to land an amphibious assault on the Pechersky Hills in Kyiv, near the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex, and from there seize the government quarter.
“They (bridges in Kyiv – ) were all mined. There was a command and an instruction that if there was a breakthrough, then cut off the possibility of crossing from the left bank to the right,” said Reznikov.
At the same time, President Zelensky noted that various scenarios were being developed. The military were ready for all the steps of the enemy.
“Everyone discussed. Every day they were ready for any steps,” the president said.
Defense of Kyiv and forecasts for a second offensive
From the first day of the full-scale invasion, the Russian occupiers declared that they would take Kyiv in three days. From the territory of Belarus, the Rashists attacked the Kyiv region. They planned to capture the capital, surrounding it from several directions, but Ukrainian soldiers launched a counteroffensive to push the invaders out of the northern regions in April 2022.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, believes that the President of the Russian Federation, Volodymyr Putin, still wants to occupy Kyiv. However, such ideas of the occupiers apply to the entire country.
On February 20, the State Border Service of Ukraine assessed the possibility of an attack on Kyiv from the north by Belarus. Andriy Demchenko, a representative of the State Security Service of Ukraine, stated that there are Russian troops along the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, but the situation there is under control.
At the same time, the commander of the United Forces, Serhii Naev, noted that the Armed Forces have enough forces to conduct stabilization actions if the Russian army attacks Kyiv again. He also noted that the occupiers in the northern direction do not have the resources to carry out an offensive.
In addition, military expert Oleksandr Musienko believes that there are currently no immediate threats to Kyiv.
