MediaTek will integrate NVIDIA graphics into ARM processors for smartphones and laptops in 2024

Citing insiders, DigiTimes reports that MediaTek plans to integrate NVIDIA GPUs into its SoCs for ARM-based smartphones and laptops. A high-performance mobile graphics card can be a big competitive advantage compared to chips from Qualcomm and Samsung, which cooperates with AMD. It is claimed that the future processor will receive advanced support for artificial intelligence and games. MediaTek+NVIDIA processors will appear as early as 2024.

NVIDIA is open to licensing its graphics technologies, but information about cooperation with MediaTek has not yet been officially confirmed. The companies are reportedly jointly developing smartphone processors and working on Windows-on-Arm laptop solutions.

The news is somewhat unexpected – MediaTek has been working with AMD for some time, and AMD uses MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 6E solution. Both companies are rumored to be working on 5G-enabled laptops.

NVIDIA video cards are valued by gamers – their use would become not only a technical, but also a marketing advantage for MediaTek. This is especially relevant for laptops – users will deal with a familiar brand and, probably, powerful graphic solutions.

The MediaTek architecture license will help NVIDIA return to the mobile gadget market, which it failed to conquer more than 10 years ago. At one time, the company developed the Tegra SoC for its Shield devices, tablets and Nintendo Switch game consoles. Licensing is a fairly high-margin business, but it cannot be compared to the production of video cards for PCs and specialized accelerators.
