Both times an odd number of missiles were fired.
In 2024, Russian invaders fired Kalibr missiles from the sea into Ukraine twice, both launches were atypical. Natalya Gumenyuk, head of the Joint Coordination Press Center of the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, spoke about this.
Thus, Russia used Caliber during missile attacks on January 2 and February 7. Both times three missiles were fired. “This is quite atypical, I can say, because it’s an odd number. The first time the launch was most likely from a surface launch vehicle, and the second from an underwater launch vehicle. Despite the fact that during the attack itself it was not on combat duty, but already during the development of events was brought, insidiously, to the starting points,” she said on air at Kiev24.
Gumenyuk explained that the launch of three missiles may indicate certain problems – for example, something did not work and one of them jammed or did not come out. This is due to wear and tear on the launch vehicles. That is why, she adds, the Russian occupiers depend on infrastructure facilities in occupied Sevastopol, where they maintain missile launchers and load Kalibr missiles.
What is known about the massive shelling on February 7:
Let us remember that that night the invaders attacked Ukrainian cities with different types of weapons. In total, they used 20 attack drones of the Shahed-136/131 type, 29 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles, 4 Kh-22 cruise missiles, 3 Caliber cruise missiles, 3 Iskander- M” and 5 S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles.
Ukrainian air defense destroyed 15 attack drones, 26 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles and 3 Caliber cruise missiles.
