Canada is expanding and strengthening sanctions against the Russian Federation on the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine: who was punished

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly announced the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, timed to coincide with the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, the press service of the Canadian Foreign Ministry reports.

“We will continue to take action against the Russian government and its ability to wage an illegal war until Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are fully restored,” Joly said.

In total, sanctions were imposed against 153 companies and ten people, including Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin, President of the Russian Chess Federation Andrei Filatov, head of Voentorg Vladimir Pavlov and co-owner of Transmashholding Andrei Bokarev.

In addition, the insurance companies AlfaStrakhovanie and RESO-Garantia, the St. Petersburg Bank, the Ilyushin Aviation Complex, the Almaz-Antey concern and other companies associated with the Russian military-industrial complex were sanctioned by Canada.

“The majority of sanctioned entities provide goods and services, such as components for Kalibr missiles and drones, insurance and retail services to the Russian Ministry of Defense,” the Canadian Foreign Ministry clarifies.

Canadian authorities also announced a ban on the export to the Russian Federation of a number of goods that can be used for military purposes. In particular, explosives and detonators used in the mining and construction industries were banned.

Sanctions against the Russian Federation – details

On the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, new sanctions were announced in the United States and the European Union. The 13th package of restrictions was adopted at the level of the EU Council. The list includes 106 individuals and almost 90 legal entities responsible for actions that undermine or threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The sanctions are aimed primarily at the military and defense sectors, those who supply weapons from the DPRK, those responsible for the deportation of children, as well as 27 enterprise entities located both in Russia and in third countries such as India, Sri Lanka, China , Kazakhstan and Turkey, and which help the Kremlin bypass current technology restrictions.
