Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban explained that it is difficult for the state to abandon Russian oil, allegedly because the country has no access to the sea – as before the Trianon peace treaty. Croatia reacted to this statement and declared the inadmissibility of territorial claims from Hungary.
So, Orban said that the oil embargo would have the “effect of a nuclear bomb” for the Hungarian economy.

The Hungarian prime minister said that Brussels’ embargo proposals do not take into account the fact that the state can only receive oil through an onshore oil pipeline from Russia or from the south. However, to implement the second option, Croatia would need to increase its capacity, writes the Hungarian edition of Telex.
“Those who have access to the sea and ports can deliver oil in tankers. If they hadn’t taken them (ports – ed.) from us, we would also have a port ,” Orban said, referring to the port of Rijeka. located in Croatia.
After this statement by Orban, Croatia called the Hungarian ambassador for an explanation and stated that such statements harm good neighborly relations.
“Croatia condemns the statement of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. We also condemn any territorial claims against sovereign states ,” the Croatian Foreign Ministry said .
Note that before the change of borders of European countries following the results of the First World War, Hungary controlled part of the Adriatic Sea coast and Rijeka at that time was a key port . According to the Trianon Peace Treaty of 1920, Hungary lost two-thirds of its territory.
Recall, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that delay in the adoption of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia is unacceptable. Arguments that the oil embargo will destroy the economy of Hungary or another country are far-fetched, the minister stressed.
