The week has turned out to be relatively calm, but this is the calm before the storm, as all the interesting things are reserved for the beginning of September, when IFA 2020 starts.

And the Chinese taxi aggregator DiDi has officially launched on the Russian market, although so far passenger transportation services are available only to residents of Kazan. Entering the market, DiDi offers very attractive prices, and profitable trips will be available not only to passengers, but also to taxi drivers, since from the latter the service will retain only 5% of the commission, while competitors take about 25% of the order value.

OPPO Watch in Russia

The Chinese company OPPO has brought to Russia its smart watch OPPO Watch running the Wear OS operating system from Google. The watch is presented in two versions – OPPO Watch 46 mm and OPPO Watch 41 mm in a configuration with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of permanent memory. The 46mm OPPO Watch has a curved 1,91-inch AMOLED display with a maximum brightness of 1000 nits, while the 41mm OPPO Watch is equipped with a 1,6-inch AMOLED. The watch implements a dual-processor OPPO system with switching between Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 as part of smart mode and the Ambiq Micro Apollo3 microprocessor for power saving. And Watch VOOC Flash technology gives OPPO Watch 16 hours of operation after 15 minutes of charging, and a 100% charge is reached in just 75 minutes.

The cases of both versions are made of aluminum alloy, the weight of the watch is 41 g and 29,7 g, respectively. OPPO engineers have equipped their watch with five workout modes: fitness jogging, calorie-burning jogging, walking outdoors, cycling and swimming, the latter is possible thanks to water resistance with a submersion depth of up to 50 meters for the OPPO Watch 46 mm and up to 30 meters for the OPPO Watch. 41 mm. OPPO Watch is already available in Russia: OPPO Watch 41 mm is available at a price of 22 rubles, and OPPO Watch 990 mm costs 46 rubles.

The OPPO Watch is very similar to the Apple Watch, and not only externally, but also in terms of capabilities and even the price, the Chinese have set very close to the Apple Watch Series 5 and even more expensive than Series 3. It is clear that the OPPO product will be more interesting for owners of Android smartphones for whom the apple product is useless, but still it might not be worth copying so impudently. And the price, I don’t even know, the product is good, but 30 rubles for OPPO seems to me too much, it would be more interesting if the larger version cost around 000 rubles.

ASUS introduced a flagship smartphone

The Taiwanese company ASUS has officially announced the flagship smartphone ZenFone 7 Pro, which features a rotating camera block that can also act as a front camera. Thanks to this approach, the large 6.67-inch AMOLED display of the novelty with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and support for HDR10 + has minimal bezels, and the screen itself has no cutouts. As a processor, the flagship solution Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus is used, high-speed LPDDR5 RAM with 8 GB and a productive built-in memory UFS 3.1 with a capacity of 256 GB. The ZenFone 7 Pro PTZ camera consists of three sensors, where the main resolution is 64 MP (Sony IMX686, F1.8, optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus), and the zoom lens supports 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. For wide-angle shots, the top 12 MP Sony IMX363 sensor is used. The maximum video resolution is 8K at 30 frames per second.

In addition to a smartphone with a Pro prefix, the usual ZenFone 7 was also shown, which differs in a processor, this is Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, the amount of memory, which in the device is 6 and 128 GB, respectively, and in this version the main camera does not have optical stabilization.

The devices have already gone on sale in their home market for $ 750 and $ 950. In Europe, smartphones will also appear on sale, but not in all countries, and prices will be announced on September 1, apparently at the time of the European premiere, as part of IFA 2020.

Something ASUS has played with niche devices, then a gaming smartphone, now here is the ZenFone 7 Pro. Yes, according to the characteristics of the flagship from the Taiwanese, everything is fine, doubts are raised by the camera block, which immediately serves as both the main camera and the front camera. Such solutions have already gone out of fashion, users are more likely to put up with a cutout in the display for the front camera than with a single module that makes the design of the device more bulky, and the time for activating the front camera increases.

A couple of new products from LG

The Koreans from LG also left not far from the creativity of ASUS, rather they even surpassed the competitors, showing this week a video of the new LG Wing smartphone, which is equipped with an additional rotary display. Of course, LG has been indulging in such things for a long time, for some reason the company decided not to follow market trends, but is looking for its own path. Let’s remember covers with a second display, which for the most part caused bewilderment and I don’t think they are in much demand. And then the Korean engineers went further and added a second display to the device itself, making it in the rotator form factor. So you are offered a regular smartphone with a 6.8-inch display, from which, when you turn the mechanism, an additional 4-inch screen becomes available from the side. It seems to me that such a topic would have come at the dawn of smartphones, when many manufacturers experimented with the form factor, but now users are already accustomed to candy bars, and plus, smartphones with flexible screens have appeared as a new milestone. Yes, you can recall that a folding Microsoft Surface Duo comes out in September, but this is a deliberately niche and rather strange solution, and LG Wing turns out to be even more strange against the background of a product from Microsoft.

Back to the news a week ago about the collaboration of the JBL brand with Black Star and the launch of two new speakers Clip BS and Flip BS. The press service of the company contacted me and promptly sent new products, it turned out that they were branded, there was a mention of Black Star on the boxes, and the abbreviation BS was even printed on the Flip BS column. Thus, this is not just a mutually beneficial partnership, as I said earlier, but a full-fledged collaboration of two brands, with which they can be congratulated. The only point is that if you make a presentation of products, then it would be nice if these very products were there in the public domain, and press materials showed them in full.
