Operators, social news and more

Updating the tariff “Social package” in “Beeline”. How ethical is it to charge money for a SIM card replacement? Messengers – a tool for socialization or some moronization of the population and combing one size fits all?

Will the “social package” become even more social or vice versa?

We will find out very soon. We read the news of November 20, 2020 here, according to the link the option for Moscow. The news, as I understand it, is federal, and the same is true in other regions of Russia, the deadline is from December 1, 2020. The parameters of the updated tariff, of course, will be different everywhere, everything is as usual here. Quote from the news:

“From December 1, 2020, the“ Social package ”tariff plan will be closed for connections and transitions. From the indicated date, the tariff plan will be renamed to “Social package archive 12.2020”. For existing customers, the parameters of the tariff plan to be closed remain unchanged.

Understanding the needs of various groups of our customers, Beeline is preparing to launch an updated tariff plan for those who need social support.

The new tariff plan will continue to include everything necessary for the usual communication at an affordable price, and will also give our customers new opportunities for communication in the new world of digital technologies. “

Hmm, what kind of “… new opportunities for communication in the new world of digital technologies” will suddenly appear? Will the popularly beloved vatsapchik be added to the tariff package for free? Although no, the vatsapchik was already in the previous version of the tariff. Or will they make a replacement SIM card free for subscribers of this tariff? Although this is unlikely, 30 rubles is also money. For each disabled person, thirty, you see, and the kids will collect the general director of “Beeline” for milk. Until December XNUMX, you still have time to brush up on the features of the “social” tariff in “Beeline”, read, for example, our review here or here. By the way, in the last review with the parameters of the “Social package” tariff, I wrote:

“… As for the rest, I don’t even know what else it would be decent to wish in the Moscow (!) Conditionally public package tariff at a price of 150 rubles / month. Perhaps only to wish pensioners to use a good tariff for a little longer, God bless the people of health. And Beeline, I hope, will not raise a hand to mutilate its “Social package”, since the very name of the tariff seems to be a little obliging ”.

Have I scribbled? Okay, in December 2020 we’ll see if Beeline has raised its hand to mutilate its tariff for pensioners. It would be nice, of course, to simply raise the price of rubles to 200, without touching anything else in the tariff, but I see this option as an overly optimistic forecast.

Paid replacement of a sim card in “Beeline”

They ask for 30 rubles for a new sim card, I read it in the comments to our previous review. To be honest, at first I did not believe it, since I changed the Beeline SIM card and would probably remember the unexpected payment for this procedure. Although … Who knows, if they just quietly write off 30 rubles. from the balance without any checks / bills, he might not have noticed. I don’t remember the balance of the Beeline SIM card and don’t check it, I know that there should be enough money. So the disappearance from the balance of 30 rubles. I would hardly have noticed. I went to the Beeline salon on the way and asked. The young man confidently answered that it was always 30 rubles. took and take for a replacement. Well, yes, the person is really young, if he does not remember the times of free replacement of sim cards. I also read in the comments that Tele2 charges as much as 50 rubles for replacing a SIM card. Somehow slowly, without a “declaration of war”, they began to take money for a replacement? Or is it just that I haven’t changed SIM cards for any of the operators for a long time and am completely behind the times?

In general, you can understand the operators too. A simcard costs money, and phone manufacturers leapfrog with formats for a reason. For the sake of size? Nuuu … Just don’t tell me that the nano-sim card is radically more compact than the micro-sim card, the difference there is a matter of millimeters. This race of formats, as far as I remember, was started by Apple, and probably for a reason. If we talk about the interests of the user and progress in general, then the first and, probably, the last time in history, the replacement of a SIM card was really done in the interests of the consumer and only for the sake of reducing the size of devices many years ago, this is even when the standard size of a SIM card was changed from a regular one (the size of a credit card) to mini-SIM. I don’t remember if Apple existed then. Since then, all subsequent transitions to new formats of micro and nano sim cards were pure marketing, there was almost no real technical need for these “maneuvers”. Well, maybe they gained a little in size when switching from mini to micro, and even then not radically.

It would be necessary to delve thoughtfully at leisure, do they change sim cards for free in the “Wild West”? Or maybe for the sake of 30 pieces of silver … (crossed out) rubles or dollars was all this mess with a regular change of formats started? I don’t know, I don’t know … As the saying goes, “there are options.”

On the issue of paid replacements. It is rather not so much the desire of the operator to receive these unfortunate 30 rubles that is seen here. for a new SIM card, how much the desire to “make” the user happy with the latest versions of content garbage, sewn into a fresh SIM card. And here the question about the ethics of forcing a user to a paid replacement of a SIM card already arises in the title. If only the operator needs it, and the user is potentially only a bunch of unnecessary expenses, then why does the user pay for it again? Subscriber you that, notoriously endured with the proud name “client”?

And more to the question of the survivability of sims. Old SIM cards were indestructible and worked reliably for decades, but in those SIM cards there was nowhere to poke content, and what is a SIM card without content? You need to cut money from suckers! The new SIM cards are almost ready to dance to you for some money, but there is simply no reliability compared to the old SIM cards. They break down, bastards, in a year or two, such is the progress. And again, this “progress” is not the user’s choice. This is a choice that was made for him, without asking him and forcing this choice on him. And, what is most piquant, they do not hesitate to take money from the user himself for what they have done to him worse. As a rule, much worse! This amazing cellular business in Russia: the consumer is laid out on a bench and joyfully beaten with rods, and then they bill him for frayed rods and still make him pay for the “depreciation” of valuable rods on his butt.

I remembered the tiny Lexand Mini phone, which is not much larger than my thumb, but it comfortably accommodates two SIM cards of the usual mini format, not even a micro one, and there is still room for a memory card. As with cable connector formats, the story is exactly the same. The entire IT world has been fighting for unification for so many years, and finally, it seems, everyone agreed to micro-USB. Victory? Shchazz …)). Apple has its own unique connector, because the sale of accessories for “elite” iPhones is obliged to bring no less “elite” revenues to Apple-licensed manufacturers of these accessories, how could it be otherwise ?! It is necessary to somehow “beat off” the cost of the license for the image of the “apple” on the package. The unified micro-USB standard for all of them did not fit into Apple’s concept of elite-insane prices for “branded” accessories.

The popularity of different messengers in Russia

I pulled a picture of Yandex statistics from Twitter, which turned out to be a bit unexpected for me.

Personally, I imagined the preferences of Russians in terms of instant messengers a little differently. But Yandex, probably, knows better, it has its own Big Data. I never insist on the correctness of my own judgments, although in terms of messengers my opinion should be more or less objective, because I myself do not use messengers at all. None. I have such a phobia, I hate to be something owed / obliged to someone, I don’t even have a single loan from the bank. Also an option not without its drawbacks, they regularly call and offer a loan. Sometimes I just want to take out a loan of 200-300 rubles, overdue and not give it back, in order to get on the black list and so that they all lag behind me. And sit giggling disgustingly, waiting for the collectors. Yes, the collectors will laugh, but why not please people once with atypical exoticism? In general, it is surprising how stereotypical scenarios the dialers have, it seems that the option “a potential client does not need money” in their training manual is not provided in principle. Or is it provided, but in such a case, the training manual contains a scenario of convincing the client that money is right here and he still needs money, but he simply does not understand his happiness?

Returning to the main topic. If you connected a messenger for yourself, then it started right away: “Oh, I wrote to you / wrote you, but you were not online, and you, such a bastard, did not answer me at all !!!”. That is, I have not done anything to the person at all and have not said anything either bad or good, but by the very fact of registering in the messenger, as it were, in advance, I pledged to quickly and around the clock serve his needs in terms of communicating with me? No, you better write to me by email, this is a great communication tool, believe me! The main thing is that it is a non-binding tool, according to unspoken netiquette, an acceptable time for an email response is up to three days. However, even if you don’t answer at all, no one in the email about this will raise a scandal, if only because of the technical impracticability of a public scandal with many participants. And ardent fans of watzaps / telegrams and other messengers can continue to talk about their own independence from the social environment, at the same time making posts on this topic in their socio-feeds and greedily collecting likes.

Here, I could not pass by such a word-creative avant-garde, fortunately, it fell into my mail. The last time I saw something similar many years ago was at some kind of expo, when the fashion for everything with the prefix “e” raged, meaning “electronic”. Well, someone from the then Ministry of Communications, with all honest people, loudly voiced the beautiful word “e-education” at the Ministry of Communications stand, it was unforgettable! But fresh “Eapteka” also sounds good, you must agree.
