Positioning
At the end of April, the Chinese company Xiaomi introduced a new smartphone called Mi 10 Youth Edition, which received 5x stabilized periscope optics. With the cost of the device about 2 yuan (100 rubles), it becomes the most affordable camera phone with high optical zoom.
When looking for information about a new product, I came across a lot of inaccuracies, contradictions in the specifications and varieties of this model. Some resources write that the Youth Edition is the successor to the Mi 10 Lite, the second claim that it is an analogue of the Mi 10 Lite Zoom, and others insist that the Mi 10 YE is still different from the Mi 10 Lite Zoom version. Moreover, even in the phone itself, in the settings, the name Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite Zoom is indicated, and the model code M2002J9E tells us that this is still the Youth Edition. Worse, the Chinese site for some reason did not allow access to the page with the Mi 10 Youth Edition model, giving a 404 error. Only after much torment did I find out that I had to log into a VPN.
Let’s read this: Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite Zoom is a complete analogue of Mi 10 Youth Edition, only the latter is sold for the Chinese market.
The novelty, as I said, stands out with cameras: there are four of them. Main, telephoto, “shirik” and “makrik”. The “heart” is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset with 5th generation network support. The display here is not bad: Samsung’s AMOLED matrix, FullHD + resolution, work with HDR10 / 10 + and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. In general, it turns out to be a decent smartphone for little money.
The set also includes a case with silver ions and an antibacterial film.
In Russia, this model is sold in some online stores for about 30 rubles. I reviewed the Chinese version of the device without Google services. Eh, no getting used to!
Appearance
Before you is a classic smartphone of last year – relatively thick bezels, a teardrop-shaped notch in the screen, a typical design of the back panel in the form of a distorted mirror image. The only element that tells us about the novelty of the device is the shape of the camera module. It is oval-shaped – much like the Samsung A-series or Huawei gadgets like the P40.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition smartphone is quite large – 164 × 74 × 7.88 mm and heavy (192 grams), but it does not feel that way in the hand. Probably 74 mm wide save. This is also a lot, but it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand.
The corners of the device are smoothed, the side edges are sloping, the back panel is flat, but closer to the right and left parts of the device it sharply turns into the sidewalls.
On the front and back sides – glass. The oleophobic coating is weak here and there, fingerprints are noticeable, they are erased relatively easily.
Several resources have written about the antibacterial coating of the smartphone. In fact, as far as I understand, we are talking about a case with silver ions and a film on the screen with a special antibacterial layer. The manufacturer indicates the test data:
“Under the test conditions, after 24 hours of exposure, the antibacterial activity of Escherichia coli ATCC 8739, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538P, Candida albicans ATCC 10231 is less than – 0.2, which meets the test requirements in Southern Germany.”
That is, E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida fungi cannot cause disease after 24 hours of exposure. This is the information, there are no test details.
In China, the Mi 10 YE smartphone is sold in five colors: black, blue, orange, green and cyan. On the official website, they sound more poetic: the colors of peach grapefruit, blueberry mint or peach oolong. In my review, the device was in a spring-milky-green color.
Each of the options has a gradient. In real life, the last color is a gradient from blue to green. We have seen such a design for the last three years at Huawei / Honor. The phone looks unusual on renders, but in reality everything is secondary.
The arrangement of the elements is standard:
- Front panel – earpiece, camera
- Bottom – dual slot for SIM cards, USB-C, microphone and speaker
- Top – 3.5 mm (oh, miracle!), Additional microphone and IR transmitter
- On the right is the power button and volume control
- Rear panel – 4 cameras and dual flash
The fingerprint scanner is located under the screen. Works quickly, recognizes without problems.

The maximum brightness in manual mode is 650 cd / m2. When the “Sunlight mode” option is enabled, the brightness increases to 900 cd / m2. The meaning is even more official. With such numbers, I have not seen devices up to 30 rubles.
The screen does not turn green at the corners, the picture is not distorted. Further, the values of the ripple coefficient were measured:
Flicker mode off:
- 100% brightness – 6.8% CP
- 70% – 8% CP
- 50% – 38% CP
- 25% – 120% CP
- 10% – 70%
- 1% – 30%
Flicker mode is on:
- 100% brightness – 6.8% CP
- 70% – 8,4% CP
- 50% – 11% CP
- 25% – 15% CP
- 10% – 22%
- 1% – 24%
The conclusions are very simple: when the “anti-flicker” is turned on, the ripple coefficient becomes much lower, especially when the brightness is less than 50%.
It was difficult to test HDR technology, since the device lacks Google services, which means that YouTube cannot be installed with the HDR option. I don’t have a Netflix subscription. Used the demo video Gran Turismo Sport, you can download it for free here.
Bottom line: a very bright AMOLED screen with all the important technologies including HDR and anti-flicker.
Working hours
This model has a 4160 mAh battery. In self-isolation mode, the phone worked for about two days and at the same time produced about 6 hours of screen glow at automatic brightness. I think in ordinary life I would get slightly lower values. Playing FullHD video drained the battery in 20 hours, and playing games in 6 hours.
The battery is charged from a standard power adapter (22.5 W) in 1 hour and 40 minutes. Wireless charging is not supported.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 YE smartphone works seamlessly with Russian mobile operators. This I mean that the model is intended for the Chinese market.
There is an NFC chip, but without Google services it will not be easy to “bring in” the payment. Most likely, the “Wallet” will help – the one that is installed on Huawei smartphones.
Satellites are detected instantly. Accuracy from 7 meters – so-so. There are no questions for the rest of the points.

Let’s start from the fact that the cost of Xiaomi Mi 10 YE is about 30 rubles, or even cheaper. For such a cost, the main camera shoots well. It has good dynamic range, accurate colors, little noise. Plus or minus Huawei P000 Lite also removes.
The wide-angle lens almost does not wash around the edges, the picture is quite detailed and clear. The colors are fine, but the dynamic range is average: be prepared for overexposures and dark areas in the photo. There is no autofocus here.
The macro lens is weak, and the matrix is even more so – 2 MP. The device focuses approximately 30-100 mm. That is, the focus is not fixed, as on many smartphones. The quality of the photos is so-so, but if you need to take a shot at a very close distance, then for Instagram it will do.
The telephoto sensor deserves respect. I compared shots with Mi 10 YE and another device with 5x zoom (I cannot name it yet, I will only say that its price is twice as high). So, the difference between the frames turned out only in noise reduction: Xiaomi’s noise is almost not removed.
When the light level is lowered, the cameras behave mediocre, especially the wide-angle ones. Under these conditions, the software switches from the telephoto lens to the main module, since you can’t really shoot with f / 3.4 aperture.
The front camera is frankly bad: noise, low details, and so on.
When shooting video, you cannot switch between cameras. 4K resolution is available only for the main camera, the zoom records at 1080p and can digitally enlarge the picture twice more.
I liked the quality of the videos: the main module uses digital stabilization, the telephoto lens is equipped with an optical “stub”. You can even shoot video with a macro camera, but the resolution is only 720p. There is Slowmo 720p at 960 fps.
The front-facing camera records excellent 1080p video – that’s just the right thing for vlogs. It has several effects such as “slow motion” or “kaleidoscope”.
Total: for the money, the camera capabilities of the Xiaomi Mi 10 YE are excellent.

My model was equipped with 6 GB of RAM, its speed is 22 MB / s, which is not bad. The built-in memory was 000 GB, its speed is 128/870 Mb / s, excellent data, one might say, flagship.

One of the inexpensive but nimble processors. And in the Antutu test it scores 320 points – these are good indicators. Everything is perfect in the throttling test: the device handles its 000 threads in 100 minutes without difficulty. There are no problems with games, almost everyone runs at maximum settings. Another question is that it is difficult to get them due to the lack of Google services.

I had a version for China in my review, so there were no Google services here. I used APKPure to install the programs. I did not try to “roll” GMS – there were enough problems with Huawei / Honor. In our comments, people periodically appear who put GMS in 5 minutes – on the road.
Musical possibilities
There is only one speaker for outputting music. It is very loud, sounds a little squeaky, but there is no distortion.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Youth Edition smartphone is equipped with a 3.5 mm jack, so you can get your grandfather’s headphones and use them without any problems. The sound through 3.5 mm is of excellent quality.
But even if you take your modern TWS headphones, then cool sound awaits you here. The device supports AAC / LDAC / LHDC and even aptX / aptXHD.
Impression
By itself, the smartphone did not evoke any particular emotions in me – a typical average upstart. However, if you pay attention to the little things, then you will see a fancy smartphone stuffed with all modern chips.
- The coolest screen from all points of view: HDR, 900 cd / m2, maximum viewing angles without color distortion, 180 Hz “touch”
- High performance and fast memory
- Good cameras and 5x zoom with optical stabilization; shooting 960 fps
- 3.5mm mini jack, NFC, IR transmitter, 5G support
- Long battery life
- Price
Of course, there are also disadvantages:
- Lack of GMS. Theoretically, can be solved with straight hands
- Front camera is so so
- Secondary appearance
Of course, if this model is officially released with us, then the price will not be so pleasant, but still worthy. Most likely, around 30 rubles.
A successful model that should be recommended for purchase.
