TV impressions

Due to the presence of a full review and operating experience, and since the 50-inch model in basic things (kit, software shell, remote control design, etc.) does not differ from other TVs in the line, I decided to paint my impressions in points.

• Xiaomi TV models have a single design – a metal case with a silver frame around the screen. The TV is huge, and in order to fully remove it in the light, I had to take it to the kitchen. And then he did not fit on the table entirely. The distance between the legs is 90 centimeters. There are no complaints about the build quality, although if you look closely, the metal turns yellow with spots at the junction of the frame.

• The back side is also made of metal, there are slots for wall mounting, as well as an abundance of connectors. Part looks down, part on the side surface. At the bottom of the TV are speakers and a power button. The TV is large, the legs are wide apart. He needs a pedestal at least one meter long. I spoke about the 55-inch model, and I will say now that it is much more convenient when the TV has one wide stand in the center.

• By the way, the design has changed a little, since the Mi-logo has been added on the back surface. It used to be without a logo. Below is a model with a 55-inch screen.

• The specifications say that the TV has 8 GB of memory. This is true, but only 3 GB is available to the user. The rest went to the system. By the way, don’t forget about the TV manager app. It not only helps to clean the TV from garbage, freeing up several hundred megabytes, but it will also be useful if you want to install an application from a flash drive.

• The TV remote control has not changed. But Xiaomi is great. The remote is great. It is lightweight, with good buttons, and the remote has a built-in microphone to ask questions and control the TV via a voice assistant.

• Specifications on the official website indicate that newer TV models use simpler chipsets. The 55 “model had a CA55 * 4 processor + Mali 470 graphics, the 50” model – Amlogic Cortex A53 and Mali 450 graphics. However, AIDA64 showed that the TV was still installed with 470 graphics. There is no difference for the user as a whole. 470 graphics have a wider range of applications in smart gadgets, coupled with improved energy efficiency. So, 470th graphics are used in hours. For a TV, energy efficiency is not important. So variations with chipsets are more of a fun fact.

• The basic TV screen looks typical for Android TV.

• A nice feature is that the TV supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth 5.0. As they say, a trifle, but nice.
• The main value of the TV is the proprietary Xiaomi shell called PatchWall. There are collected films, serials, TV channels, thematic selections are published. As you might guess, in order to watch all of this, you need a subscription to the corresponding streaming services. By the way, pay attention to the last photo. To watch TV channels, you just need to connect to the Internet, you don’t need to plug in the antenna.

• The VIP tab contains all sorts of gifts in the form of free trial subscriptions and discounted movies. For example, when I started Kinopoisk, I was given 2 months as a gift.

• In the “Entertainment” tab, content is not only from movies and TV series, but also from YouTube shows, although in this case it would be more accurate to say not only YouTube, but also RuTube.

• In the settings, you can activate the “For adults” tab. I recommend not to ignore it, because, in addition to films of erotic content, there are also thrillers and horror films. As you can see in the photo, “Constantine” with Keanu Reeves was placed here. There is also “Masyanya”, which for some reason was given a poster from the Adventure Times.

• Last time I complained about the flaws in the PatchWall user interface. A year later, nothing has changed. For example, we wanted to see a fairy tale for adults “Snow White”. Click to open the screen. And on the TV with 4K resolution, they could not properly place the description and the actors. To read the description, you need to click on it. The description has opened, but there are no actors. Along the way, there are no pictures from the film, no trailer. In the case of Snow White, one can still assume that there is simply no such content, but the same situation is with other films. The description screen also looks as boring as possible.

• Look at how the film “The Serf” was treated. Again, you need to separately open the description of the film, but it does not even fit on one screen, you have to scroll to read it in full. Xiaomi, well, redesign the screen. After all, you can fit the description and the actors on one main screen. Maybe pull up a trailer from YouTube. Evaluation from “Kinopoisk” and IMDB.

• Frankly, I wanted to give up the TV review, but one characteristic convinced me. If you remember, Xiaomi TVs initially made a lot of noise. And now they are an example of a seductive purchase. But, frankly, the model of the previous year upset everyone with a screen, the maximum brightness of which was 220 nits. In general, the value is below average. Taking into account the matte surface of the screen, it was comfortable to watch even during the day. However, everyone criticized this brightness. In this year’s model, the brightness of the screen was 330 nits. And this is an excellent indicator. The color gamut is about 100% sRGB.
  Take a look at the photo below. The powerful setting sun hits the TV screen. And this absolutely does not interfere with viewing. The combination of good brightness and an anti-glare screen does the trick. And now the TV is just perfect for the money.

The hardware and performance of the 50 “Mi TV has not changed compared to the 55” model. Read the main overview.

But the main change is a different screen. Brightness 330 nits, response time 9 ms. The new screen suits the TV very well. By the way, on the website Xiaomi is promoting the model, saying that this is “our most colorful TV”.

Colorfulness is also mentioned in the description of the 65-inch model. This is also a novelty presented at the presentation in May this year. Accordingly, when choosing a TV from Xiaomi, I recommend paying attention to the latest models and giving preference to them, since, all other things being equal, their screen is brighter and juicier.

Now the TV is sold at a price of 27 rubles, including a discount of 990 rubles. Should you buy it? The answer to this question should be found on Yandex.Market. If you remember, a year ago Xiaomi was without competitors. Let’s see what’s going on today.

And immediately for 30 thousand “white” or slightly cheaper “gray” TV of the seventh series from Samsung with a screen of 50 inches, 4K, a screen refresh rate of 100 Hz. Samsung is the leader in the TV market, so you should pay attention to the model. But remember that this is not Android TV, but Samsung’s own development.

Not bad! We look further. This is followed by another market leader in LG TVs with the 2019 model – LG 50UM7300 50 ″ (2019). This is also not Android TV, but Smart TV on webOS.

And finally – the cheapest 50-inch 4K TV costs 20 rubles. This is some kind of Polarline model. What kind of TV it is, I can’t even imagine, but it is there and has even collected 000 positive reviews.

Which TV to choose, of course, everyone decides for himself. But a year ago, Xiaomi was an ultimatum in terms of a good, cheap TV. Today the buyer has a choice that includes both brand names and market leaders such as LG and Samsung. Of course, we must thank Xiaomi for this, which by its actions makes everyone move. Mi TV 4S 50 inches is a great smart TV for your money. It can be safely recommended for purchase!
