The President noted that he and his team are daily looking for a diplomatic option that could work to withdraw the Ukrainian defenders from Mariupol.
The first stage of the evacuation mission from Azovstal has been completed. Managed to save more than 300 people : women, children.
Currently, the second stage of the evacuation mission is being prepared: the removal of the wounded and medics.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an address on May 7.
“Thanks to the teams of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations, who helped us to carry out the first stage of the evacuation mission from Azovstal. We managed to save more than 300 people: women, children. In fact, we have withdrawn civilians from Azovstal and are now preparing the second stage of the evacuation mission : the wounded and doctors. Of course, if everyone fulfills the agreements. Zelensky added that he is certainly working with the team to withdraw the Ukrainian military – all the heroes defending Mariupol.
“This is very difficult, but important. I’m sure everyone understands the main reason for this complexity, as well as where this reason is located. But we do not lose hope, we do not stop, every day we are looking for such a diplomatic option that can work,” he stressed.
The President’s team is preparing for tomorrow, May 8, the extension of humanitarian corridors for all residents of Mariupol and surrounding settlements.
